Carling Cup winners and FA Cup finalists, but still struggling to in the Premiership. We all have our wish lists of players of whom we would like in, but who should be leaving the club at the end of the season.
Kuyt, Maxi, Aurelio, Johnson, Adam, Downing, Henderson?
Should Jamie be going into retirement or used as a back-up for next season?
I suspect Kuyt, Maxi (I will be sad to see these two ho though and Aurelio. The other 3 will want to saty put!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI would love Maxi to stay but we utlised better as a sub!
DeleteKuyt can go - very good servant but has served his purpose for the club!
Aurelio your number is up!
Thee rest can have a second season to prove themselves!
David
DeleteAgree with you.
Maxi is a sub player, and cant see him being a full time key player choice, and for the time being, his a good player to have in our squad.
Kuyt has had his time, a loyal servant to us, but I don't think we get much more out of him, especially when we are a need to refresh our players and building the squad again, so yes he will have to go.
As for the new boys, I would also like to see them another season and hopefully they can prove there worth!
Aurelio - Go!
I'd get rid of Agger as well... He's proved he aint up to to the task... a few shots and runs with the ball is just not good enough. Skyrtel has protected him and Carragher all season.
DeleteAre you serious leon? Aside from fact he's really injury prone agger is total class act. Up there with best in the prem for me. Check out our defensive record with him in the team and then without and you might have a change of heart....
DeleteAs for the others, be sad to see dirk leave but he does seem to have lost a little of his endurance which was always his biggest assest - think we'll really missing his winning attitude in the big games though. Think Downing, henderson and adam all deserve another season and I'm hopeful that downing in particular could improve significantly next year. Surprised you mention Johnson Vic as for me he's a vital player for us and always think we're a better side with him in the team, whether at right back or left back. Also, surprised you didn't mention Carroll - although I hope he'll get a run to the end the season to build on last few games and show that he has big future at the club.....
Pretty sure decision on aurelio has already been made and despite being a great player on his day his injury record makes getting rid a no brainer. As for Carra, think his experience and passion warrant keeping him around but really hope coates is promoted to 3rd choice.....
Hi mate,
DeleteThe Johnson reference was purely to induce conversation because he has been linked with a £16 mill move to Spain and we now have three right backs - but if there was that amount on the table for a right-back unless we are talking Phillip Lahm for me it would be good night Eileen. If Kelly is to be seen as a right-back of the future and Johnson stays, then Flanagan may not have a long-term future, particularly as we have Coates in the centre-half position. I know Karl will want his say on the Johnson front.... ;-)
Aurelio leaving is a foregone conclusion and with Dirk been left out continually in big matches one can see the end of the line and would at least get two over-thirties off the payroll (although as been said, it would be said to see him go!). As for Carroll (I agree, that he needs continuous games) - with the addition of a youngster groomed for the first team out of the reserves/youth team and obviously another striker...
Don't think Kenny will sell Charlie Adam as he seems to rate him highly and same goes with Downing - Maxi I'd keep as a squad player as anyone who can just steal in and score goals cannot be underestimated in terms of his importance to the squad. Coates should be vying with Agger for start because we are not talking about someone coming out of the reserves, and we have a plethora of young centre-halfs beginning to form a queue such as Danny Wilson.
Moving on Adam and Kuyt might force his hand instilling some pace in the squad.
If Real Madrid want to pay £16m for Johnson then so be it, but we must replace him with a quality first choice international right back. Someone made the comment after the FA cup semi-final game that Johnson made a big difference returning to the side and he certainly did. I think the problem we have with Johnson is that, apart from Gerrard, he is probably the best right midfielder in the side, even though he doesn’t play there for us.
DeleteKelly may well emerge as our front line right back but may be susceptible to the odd injury. As David mentioned to me recently, he’s often injured. Flanagan didn’t do himself justice coming back into the team recently and needs a spell in the gym to beef up a bit.
I have to agree with Luke – no way would I want to get rid of Agger – he’s a class act and has got what many of our midfielders don’t have, namely the ability to travel with the ball a few yards, and let off a shot or two or even just open up the play. With the possible exception of Skyrtel, he’s my player of the season so far.
I also hope we can get rid of Philip Deggan as well as Aurellio. Perhaps if Aurellio had played a few games you could justify his existence, but he’s no spring chicken.
I am expecting Kenny to keep faith in the Henderson, Downing and Carroll, not least because we just wouldn’t get much change from a fiver if we sold them. I would keep Adam but regrettably Kuyt and Carragher might have to go or be content, assumingly like Maxi, to settle for a dozen starts in the season.
Kuyt should be the first out of the door, followed very closely by Charlie Adam. (Lucas is back next season) Although Kuyt does appear out of nowhere and score some important goals, he offers nothing more besides an incredible work rate, he is a poor passer and cannot read the game very well. Charlie Adam has never been a good footballer, Rangers got rid of him, then Ian Holloway made himself a tidy bonus by shifting him on to his fellow Glaswegian for a profit. Adam has constantly under performed since his move, even Downing and Henderson have performed better. These two should be given more time to settle, as their performances have improved throughout the season. Andy Carroll is another player who, if given time, will develop into an asset for the club. He may need a little more time to prove worth the £35M outlay, but I think he will get there eventually, he is only 23 after all. Now on to Glen Johnson. I would very much like to see this "pacey wing back" employed in a right wing / right midfield role. We all know he is not the best defender, but he is very good at going forward,(Real Madrid will use Johnson in this way if he leaves) and would be much better than Dirk Kuyt on the right side of the field. Maxi Rodriguez should not be allowed to go anywhere, and should be given much more playing time. He really has been a consistent performer, even if he has only starred from the bench. Now the mixed feelings that surround a certain Mr Carragher. What a player and loyal servant Jamie Carragher has been to Liverpool. Why should he leave? I would definitely try to persuade Jamie to take on a player / coach role at the club. He is the ideal role model for any young players and I feel he would take to coaching instantly. If we can remove some of the dead wood this season, and replace them with up and coming youth players, I think we will be a force to be reckoned with next year. There is no need to go and spend obscene amounts of cash this Summer, as we have some great young talent who I'm sure would be ready to move up to the first team. We could even make money this transfer window rather than spending it...

DeleteMate, very good points and agree.
DeleteAs we begin the task of rebuilding the squad, Kuyt is no longer considered a regular starter, therefore I think he will be joined in moving on with Maxi and Aurelio, however I would like Maxi to stay, his a good sub/squad player.
Kuyt has no doubt scored very important goals, and has served us well, but his not in our future plans.
Having 12 months on his contract remaining, I don’t see these being extended.
I think Maxi has been a success in the two-and-a-half years, but another one with only 12 months left on his contract and at 31, he is on his way if he receives a suitable offer, and more regular first team play.
Aurelio, battling injury’s and has barely played this season, so he goes.
Adam – well, apart from his under performance, cant run with the ball, cant tackle, I would like to see him another season with us.
Henderson, Downing, Carroll, all need another season under them, with regular games, pretty much playing every game needed too.
Apart from another top striker, I don’t think we need to spend, hopefully this fund can come from some of the players who will leave.
Carragher will no doubt phrase out, and we need young fresh legs back defense, so hopefully he will be offered to stay as part of coaching/defence team, who defiantly deserves something like this, been such a vital and loyal squad member.
After having reservations about Johnson for a long time I've become a convert this season and think he is one of the few players in our team who consistently takes responsibility so I'd be sad to see him go as I think we need to try and keep core of players to hopefully avoid another season in transition. Also, think his ability to play left back is very valuable whilst Jack Robinson is still finiding his feet.Think Kelly definitely has a big future at the club but for me at the minute he should be second choice right back and would also like to see him get a few games at centre back in the carling cup....
DeleteWould love to see maxi stay cause agree with Kop-Post that his ability to ghost in to space is pretty invaluable but I fear his massive wages mean the owners will be trying to move him on.
Also, I see the much maligned emailano insua scored his fifth goal in the europa league for sporting last night. Looks like a truly shocking bit of business getting rid of him for 500k and replacing him with konchesky for 4.5m (and kacinkalic who is looking very promising for fulham). I was never totally convinced by insua though he always showed glimpses of quality but just looked too slow but looks like another example of a young player who has come good after a bit of a ropey start due to losing confidence after a couple of poor games.....
I have to with agree with you from watching Fulham this season, Kacinkalic looks a really good prospect and seems comfortable on using both. Why do we need Johnson, don't we still have Philip Degan?
DeleteLiverppol announced the release of Degan back in late 2011, I think he is on loan to FC Basel
DeleteLine up for Saturday any suggestions...?
ReplyDeleteValerie G
I'd go
DeletePepe
Johnson
agger
skrtel
enrique
bellamy
gerrard
shelvey/spearing
downing
Carrol
Suarez
with sterling on the bench to come on and get a decent run out in second half
That's a very attacking line-up Luke. which I'd love him to go with - starting with Shelvey rather than Spearing.
