Death knell sounds time on the Hodgson era

Roy Hodgson must fear the sack (with many supporters hoping he just ups and leaves) after what can only described as a woeful performance against Blackburn. The team is managing to reach new lows in a season containing plenty of embarrassing performances.  The way Blackburn forwards roasted the Liverpool centre-halfs makes one wonder if Hodgson knows anything about his players.

Time and time again this season the Skrtel and Kyrgiakos pairing has been shown up for pace this season and with Agger on the bench after such an accomplished performance against Bolton it seems the former Fulham manager has a death wish to go down in flames.

The way Kyrgiakos was spun and left for dead for the second goal must have had the Liverpool physiotherapist reaching for the smelling salts as the Greek International looked decidedly dizzy and the least said about the third goal the better as Skrtel was left leaden footed by Hoilet before he embarrassingly squared for Benjani to roll the ball into an empty net.

Yes Gerrard scored and yes he missed a penalty in the final ten minutes of his 550 first team appearance, but even with the inadequacies of Hodgson, if rest of the players showed the drive and willingness of their captain Liverpool supporters wouldn’t have to put with inept performances such as this in a season which is beginning to reassemble a horror show.

With the FA Cup game against Man United on the horizon, 2011 could turn out to be our annus horribilis if action isn’t taken soon by John W Henry & co.

  1. I just don't understand why we have to continue to endure the pathetic performances of a side put out by Roy Hodgson when it is plainly obvious that he is incapable of changing the whole mood of the team/squad - his negative demeanour at the sidelines doesn't inspire the players on the pitch to give that extra 10-20% which is currently missing - we need action today from Fenway because the squad needs an injection of new belief that a new appointment or caretaker appointment will bring. The longer the decision to change the manager takes the more trouble we will be in the league and the more the confidence will drain from all the players.

  2. Forgot to also mention that Kenny's last game as LFC manager was an FA Cup classic 4-4 with Everton in 1991 and it would very ironic if he was asked to assist the squad as caretaker this weekend in the FA Cup against our biggest rivals Man Utd !!!

  3. The media keeps saying he needs time, well he asked for 10 games earlier this season before he was judged him, we gave him that and then some, still we were patient. Before Xmas we said the crunch fixtures of Wolves, newcastle, bolton and blackburn should get us back on track, however 3pts from a possible 12 is unacceptable. Both Newcastle and blackburn, have stuffed us 3-1, both teams had managers in place that were employed after the transfer window shut, and they're not complaining that they need time to mould a squad in their style, they got on with it and done better than Woy has all season. It is an insult for people to keep saying he inherited a poor team...

what the hell is NESV waiting for? Till we get drilled by the mancs and are out of yet another cup?? They might not be watching the matches but surely they got the message when LFC didn't sell out their allocated away tixs at blackburn for the first time in EPL history...not to mention 10k missing from Anfield for the Bolton match. Sack him now, please.

  4. The only thing I can think off is that NESV want to believe that Hodgson can pull it off. Look, one would like to believe that we will beat United, and raising our game against the big teams has nver been the problem. Woy, spoke how well we performed against Bolton, but would we have won without Gerrard... doubt it some how and from all accounts Gerrard wasn't very happy with the effort his colleagues put against Blackburn. Doesn't say much for his colleagues in terms of their love and belief of the club, but moreover, doesn't say much for the manager's ability to inspire. Blackpool(if he is still in charge after the Man U game), Everton, Wolves, Fulham and Stoke are our next five league matches. A LFC in form should be thinking fifteen points, but with Roy in charge we can only hope Gerrard's at his rampaging best!!!
