No matter which way you cut it Luis Suarez worth to Liverpool cannot be understated even after such a deplorable act. Can or more to the point will Liverpool throw away a player who is one of the world’s great players with in his market value soaring from anything between £60/100 million.
After the rocky years of Hicks and Gillet and the club now on its uppers the question is can Liverpool afford to banish the player and loose millions in the transfer market or keep him and loose face in the eyes of not only the footballing public, but the wider world as the incident moved football from the back to the front page.

Suarez cries wolf |
Suarez owes Liverpool a huge debt of gratitude, not just for supporting him through the disgraceful incidents with Patrice Evra and Branislav Ivanovic, but for buying him in the first place after his original suspension for biting while at Ajax.
Liverpool has always prided itself on its ethics and ethos, but our current number 7 is stretching the club and Brendan Rogers public support to the point of ridicule and embarrassment.
But in the cold light of day, money has always been the driving force which guides morals in football and one only has to look at FIFA and the alleged misdemeanours over the World Cup bids to see the lack of scruples throughout the game.
No comments. Very sad.

FIFA looking into this, could be a long Ban, he needs Help, Medical Help... Do we want a player like this in out team...?
ReplyDeleteThe problem is we do need a player with the scoring attitude but not with the pit-bull mind, he is mental or a very spoilt kid.
DeleteMerv B
It's just crazy... for a split few second, what's makes him do it... we need Wesley Snipes and Stephen Dorff, as stewards!!
DeleteHe needs to see a shrink and not that Dr Steve Peters guy either, as far I'm concerned everything he touches goes Pete Tong!
DeleteHe requires a thorough check-up from a couple of shrinks before he is let loose on the pitch again.
Heard Suarez interview from LS - "These these things happen on the pitch, don't need to make a story out of it."
DeleteSo his excesses should be tolerated to condone no matter what just because he is LS. Sorry I do not but that. It was too obvious what he did.
DeleteAs a footballer myself, I have never had any reason to bite someone. I may think of the old school hard tackle but to bite someone, flip me, is out of the question, you know what I mean David and Karl.
DeleteMerv B
I am surprise Uruguay FA did not seek help from LFC for LS before he left for the tournament. I suspect copying good practice that works is not a crime.
DeleteHi All,
DeleteI think we need to try our best to get as much money as we can from him (no matter how good he is) and just get rid – he continues to go from one extreme to the other, scoring great goals and then embarrassing the club, the fans and his family by doing crazy cannibalism actions !!!
I just want closure with this world class but ultimately flawed player – he needs serious help but I just don’t think we should continue to invest our time in him.
It’s just happening too often to just be a coincidence.
Hear that Merv, although I’ve seen you let your presence felt on a few occasions, biting would not be one of the things you do. He’s no ordinary person – I was saying that he needs professional help but a colleague pointed out to me today that he’s just a spoilt brat. We can’t keep a player like that here, regardless how good he is.
DeleteThe guy is beyond the pale... such vile behaviour and on a world stage... wow, if he was car, he would be scrapped asap.
DeleteHas BR or LFC said anything yet?
DeleteMo
Iain Ayre said he would wait and assess the situation before commenting.
DeleteI think it be after the WC, they will need to speak to him again. I’m sure BR/LFC are furious, this time around may not support him…. It be a shame..
DeleteHis valuation is on a free fall right now. Barc or RM buy players with impeccable reputation so that they can recover the cost of their investment through the sale of replica shirts and scarf. This guy a great footballer but marketing suicide.
Deleteso, nothing to say about his 9 game Premiership ban...?
ReplyDeleteSuarez gets a nine game international ban and a 4 month general ban which includes club football. He won’t be playing for us until January 2015. Totally unfair on LFC
DeleteCan he be transferred though…
DeleteYup, but who’s going to buy a player who can’t play for four months.
DeleteThe club has been shafted here.
The other thing is that he’ll probably appeal that which could lead to an even longer ban. Actually the 4 month ban will start from now so that will take us up to the end of October so he’ll be back by November by which time we’ll probably be out of the Champs league anyway. Idiot.
DeleteI know we would have won the league if he had been able to control himself the season before last vs Chelsea’s Ivanovic so we can’t have another season of starting the season late – we need to get rid now !!!
DeleteI just hope that all those rumours about Alexis Sanchez being a done deal are true!
Deleteall,
DeleteI think we need to look at the LS incident as a blessing in disguise. NOW LFC will have to go and get good quality players knowing full well the they will be without LS for the start of the campaign. A Sanchez would be a good start and even though the price is a bit high for Moreno, we may have to pay for it.
Mo
And by quality players, I take it you don't mean spending £30m of our limited funds on Lallana. We need a couple of players that are world class right now.
DeletePrecisely.
DeleteI think also that more funds should be made available to enable us to be at the top where we belong.

From letter on Football 365:
ReplyDeleteWhen discussing the Suarez business, a lot of people have speculated on what would have happened had this happened in the street, outside a pub, perhaps. Well, I happen to work with a magistrate, and what she said actually shocked me.
Firstly, Suarez would not just have been charged with assault. The biting, if proven, means the charge would have been Actual Bodily Harm (ABH), and because it was a third offence, I'm afraid Luis would be off to the cells. At least six months, probably twelve, coupled with what's called high level Community Service, meaning 180-200 hours worth.
So yes, he did get off lightly. Now, what are the odds on the Uruguayans, out of some misguided persecution complex, doing something stupid in protest? T-shirts? A protest at the next game? Should be fun, whatever happens.
Mo
Quite right he would have been charged. Uruguay May go on to win the World Cup.
DeleteVery interesting development with LS. His last transfer from Ajax to Liverpool he bit somebody. This time is so keen on moving to Spain once again he employed his most effective strategy bit another person. Why must it be him making unwanted headlines world cup after world cup! I heard from one pundit that his valuation before biting was £100m and that valuation has gone down by £20m. In all honesty I still do not mind! Throw in Sanchez as sweetner and another £50m cash to invest on other trouble free players, everyone will be happy.
ReplyDeleteHey Edet,
DeleteTend to believe that he had was out of control when he did this (although Neil Warnock amongst others says when he first saw it he thought he did it on purpose). Lots of conspiracy theorists kicking around, but he loves playing for his country and doesn't miss a game and with him in the team they could've got a lot further in the competition. Barcelona and RM use the media to their advantage saying the player has agreed to this or that. Liverpool haven't said anything so we don't know, apart from Kenny Dalglish saying we should support him. If we do sell, hopefully we're in poll position for Sanchez although Arsenal are making overtures for the player and as such there is always the London factor.
Totally agree Vic, heard this theory doing the rounds and think it's crazy to think he would stoop to such tactics and cement his status as a pariah just to engineer a move. Not saying he didn't want to move but think two are totally unrelated. Would be great to get sanchez as part of any deal but for some reason I can't see it happening, can just imagine a chelsea, city, psg coming in and blowing us out of the water with wages....Even if we did get him and some of other names being linked with think there def a danger of us suffering a bit like spurs did last year with loss of one of best players in league and task of trying to integrate 7-8 new players into the squad....
DeleteAgree with your last sentence 7-8 new players to gel.
DeleteNot knowing what the LS case is going to be like eg whether he will still an LFC player at the end of the day but I thought that we need to strengthen our defence but also it would be good to get some quality players in midfield. BR seemed to be concentrating on midfield/up front and apart from Moreno not much about defence.
Mo
Whatever is to be will be. Just wish he would admit that he did wrong or practice telling better lies!
DeleteHe is gone this time we can't keep having this scenario with him either he wants to help us improve and become better or he just wants to better his career entirely up to him.
DeleteSeems Liverpool or the Uruguay FA has no idea Suarez apology was pending. Looks as if it was penned by him and his agent and instigated by Barcelona.
DeleteWhile I’m not a big fan of Alan Pardew’s, but he was saying exactly the same thing as Didi Hamann is below. He said that Newcastle recently tried to buy a player in the bottom half of the league under the radar and not rated as a top English player and they were quoted £14 million!
ReplyDeleteHamann blasts: £27m is a 'ridiculous'
