Should We Keep Luis Suarez Whatever The Cost?
As always happens as this time of the season, speculation is rife concerning player movements and with Liverpool having one of the world’s most sort after players, rumours are moving into overdrive particularly with the player in question being widely quoted in German newspaper Bild as saying, "If one day the club [Bayern Munich] made an offer for me, we will sit down and see what is the best for everyone."
Suarez is moving in to his peak years as a footballer and whether he’s going to wait around until LFC returns to the holy grail of the Champions League is highly debatable, despite his recent protestations.
But the question is should the board do everything within its power to keep “Luisito” the ‘Cannibal of Ajax’?

No one player is bigger than the club and if a figure of £40-50m can be obtained to improve the whole side to obtain CL football next season we may have to look at this.
ReplyDeleteThe only problem we will face is the fact that bringing in the top quality players to compete at the top level gets harder every year we are not in the CL.
We will need to be exceptionally fortunate to find a world class star like Suarez again but it can be done with excellent scouting.
No player is bigger than Liverpool FC, our wonderful club will be here long after all these current and future world stars grace our beautiful club.
It has been a rollercoaster adventure with Suarez with many ups and downs but if he stayed we would really have a chance to see him at his very best with the partnership of Suarez and Sturridge looking very exciting but it may be shortlived if Suarez decides to seek pastures new in the summer.
I hope he does decide to give it one more season but I believe his head has already been turned and that we will lose the sorcerer this summer.
There’s no downsides here – if he stays, we get to keep a world class player. If he goes – we relieve Bayern of £40-50 million and get another world class player to replace Suarez (in the same way Torres was replaced). No one’s irreplaceable, LFC marches on, the world keeps spinning. Simples.

I agree with the comments. Remember Kevin Keegan, G Souness, K Daglish and so on.......
DeleteLFC is bigger than anyone and in any case Suarez has not gone yet.

My whole point is do not assume he will stay no matter what he says at the moment- if he stays all well and good and Sturridge and Suarez will flourish even more the longer they play as a partnership.
DeleteMy whole belief is that LFC is greater than any one player but do not expect us to continue to attract the top level players if we are no longer competing at the top table in the Premiership and European football.
I am in total agreement with your 2nd para and also as you stated SAS will be a great partnership just like Keegan/Toshak and Daglish/Rush.

I assume nothing when it comes to le futbol. But that’s the fun of it all ;-)
DeleteBro – we are all drinking the same reality juice. We know LFC ain’t what it used to be. But like the phoenix, with time, the Liver Bird WILL rise from the ashes under the tutelage of the Gaffer Rodgers. All he needs is time and a bit more patience from irate fans.
Look at what Spurs were a few years back. They were hopelessly rutted to the bottom of the table now they are regularly challenging for top 4 positions.
Stay the course bro, let the gaffer do his good work, and don’t get swayed by every single rumour that hits the mill.

I am not totally convinced by Rodgers mainly because he has not shown the capacity to win the big games in all the tests he has had so far. Not having any European football next season will be deemed a poor season no matter who the manager is.
DeleteHis track record states that he has never won a trophy as a coach/manager and he hasn't so far shown the technical knowledge to change this. It was clear to everyone that we needed a goal away from home vs Zenit but all he had to say is that he felt we were unlucky, European football away games are 90% of the time won in the away legs, he needs to grasp this and learn very quickly or it will be seen as another managerial experiment by us which has failed.
What excuses will we have for the boss if his philosophy fails to get European football again at the end of next season - the minimum requirement for this season should have been to do well in a cup competition and qualify for Europe next season, he has failed with the first objective and we will have to go on a great run which hasn't materialised all season to now achieve either Euro League or CL football through our league position.
I do not want us just to play nice football and not achieve anything - no trophies or qualification for Euro League or ultimately the CL or winning the Premier League, no excuses next season as in reality Dalglish lost his job despite winning a trophy, getting to another cup final and qualifying for Europe, if we do not qualify through our league position as I stated earlier the decision to sack Dalglish will have lots of us fans wondering where we are going with the manager.
So my next question is what have we achieved this season apart from acquiring a striker capable of helping Suarez and blooding more youth players?
We’ve achieved absolutely nothing mate. So maybe you should apply for the gaffer’s job and lead us to glory.
