LFC - Where are we heading?

Kop-Post follower dedlfc  says that Liverpool's movement in this summer's transfer market will determine if we are back in contention and will give clarity as to whether our new owner's are true purveyors of the Liverpool dream.

The  forthcoming pre-season  will be  the most important in the last few years at our club.

A few long-standing questions answered will be answered once and for all:-

1) Do the owners have the ambition to push us back into contention for a run at getting the title?

Most definitely - they provided a statement of intent by allowing the £56 million received for Torres and Babel to be spent  immediately on Luis Suarez Andy Carroll - they just need to continue with the statement of intent on signings to improve quality and depth of the squad. Also with the statement made by John W Henry “Success is winning titles, nothing less. And when we win a championship – and WE WILL- success isn’t measured or accomplished by winning once” I just love that positivety, which is a repeat of the statement of intent he made before galvanising the Boston Red Sox.

2) Do the owners have enough faith in King Kenny to give him a long-term contract to return us to winning ways?

I believe they have listened and learned enough about the way things should be at LFC, re-implemented by Dalglish, where everything progressive is done behind closed doors. King Kenny will only be confirmed as long-term manager when the owners and King Kenny believe that it should be public news.

3) Will the top players want to continue to come to LFC even without top-level European football and can we retain our top players?

Yes, if you asked either question at the beginning of the year it would be a resounding NO! Roy Hodgson took LFC from one low to another until he was finally replaced by King Kenny. The confidence levels of the squad under Hodgson was completely deflated and any future stars or world class players looking from the outside would not have been impressed by the style of football – since King Kenny has returned the confidence of the squad has re-surfaced, the quality of football has improved drastically and the attraction of playing for Liverpool has therefore arisen. Moreover, before the recovery began, Dalglish was able to bag Suarez and Carroll which suggests that the manager in tandem with the club’s standing has a large part to play in acquiring top class players with or without the attraction of European football.

If these questions are answered positively the future will indeed look extremely bright.

Please comment and state what you think on the 3 questions above.

  1. The owners ambitions will determine whether we attract the type of top class players we need for the club to go forward. Camolli was recently quoted as saying that his phone was ringing of the hook from player's agents after Liverpool dispatched Man United at Anfield. If players can see progress on and off the field they'll want to sign and continuity with a long-term manager at the helm puts us in the ball park. In a pre-season before the UEFA restrictions kick-in buying top-class players will not be easy and that's why one would prefer Liverpool to go down the root of signing mostly British players. Defour recently, re-signed for his club Standard Liege when Man U didn't continue their interest, although our interest is well known, this suggest it will not be easy. It's not impossible, because as a club we've signed Meireles, Suarez, Carroll and Jovanović in the last 9 months all much sort after players which suggest the LFC brand is alive and kicking especially with King Kenny in charge!

  2. A few brief comments on the questions posed:
    1) At this stage we can't dont really know the full extent of the owners ability to commit their finances - the Janueary transfer showed that they didn't just fancy gobbling up the £s achieved from Torres untimely move. So far we haven't really spent anything but thats not unreasonable given the short timescale. Lest we forget the mess we were in financially and structually for so long.
2)One thing the owners will have no doubt about is the way in which Kenny Dalglish has brought hope, belief, europhia and genuine love for the c)lub. I cant say that Rafa didn't love the club but he became too big for us despite the lack of recent success and his nightmare performances with the media and relationship with the fans. I find it quite interesting that Camolli seems to take the credit for our signings implying that |Dalglish has no say on player purchases - merely the coach.
    3) Can we keep our top players? If you ignore the players that we bought recently and Carra and Gerrard, I'm not sure that we have too many top players that we would be gutted if they left. The two players that we might lose would be Pepe Reina and Glenn Johnson. I think we have say 4 or 5 players that we would want to definetately keep because of their quality and a few others that we might want to keep because they are CURRENTLY vial to the squad.Several players need to be shown the door including Deggan, Konchesky, Maxi (despoite his recent goalscoring), Kycycos, Insua, Plesis, Ngog, Aurellio to name but a few. If we can get the top British players as well as a couple of world class foreign players, I think we would be well on the road. If for example, we get hold of Ashley Young and James Milner, it would be a really good platform for attracting players. The LFC brand lives on but we really must play in Europe next season. I know its the Carling Cup equiavalent in Europe but it does give players the foundation from which to build.

  3. Yes, already they have alighted Liverpool fans with a good feel and a good business mind for success. They are on the same level to build upon success to our club. The owners have pledged to tackle the club's problems both on and off the field "head-on". I think they have proved this by the sale of Torres and bought in Luis Suarez and Carroll, so already changed the team and gone for two big buys. They have showed the money, but not gone overboard and splashed out.

I believe they are working very closely with Dalglish and making sure that money is spent in the right departments. No one can predict the future but ambition is there.

Yes, they do, at this moment in time; no better King can be on the throne for Anfiled. His local people man and player, manager etc. He knows what it takes to build on success to win and compete in the Premier ship. His man the owners can trust and ensure we go for the win every game no matter what. Surly the owners have seen a mass improvement of our play and results with KD in charge, if this keeps going hopefully the contract can be turned into a long-term contract. However, bearing in mind KD will need money and lots of it.

Many factors can judge and balance on players to come to LFC, or leave with out European football. British players yes they would come and stay, but top foreign players well, if we keep the game rising and be completive I do not see why not. It will not be long before we get back into European football. At the moment we have a good enough team to beat most teams, but not big enough to win Major torments, which is the key. Pepe Reina and Glenn Johnson. are a possible to go if things do not shape up, no big deal. Let us build on our English co players!
